Children’s Theatre Lab “The Little Stage of the World”
The Children’s Theatre Lab “The Little Stage of the World” is aimed at children aged 5 to 12 and offers them the opportunity to experience and actively shape a theatre production – from the initial idea to the final performance – in a playful and engaging way. Under the guidance of Illia Rudakov, a multilingual actor and theatre educator from Urban Theater, the children develop their own play while getting to know various aspects of theatre work.
Participants in the lab are involved in all stages of creating a theatre production. Through acting training, their imagination, attention, creativity, openness, as well as physical and creative freedom are fostered. During weekly rehearsals, they collaboratively develop a theatre piece, its storyline, and its characters. They design the stage set and costumes, select the music, and create dance sequences. Throughout this creative process, they are supported by professional theatre practitioners from Urban Theater, including directors, actors, musicians, choreographers, and set designers.
Acting training -> Playwriting -> Set design -> Music -> Choreography -> Stage production
The rehearsals will be held in German, and if required also in English, Russian and Ukrainian (depending on the participants’ native languages). The plays will be performed in German.
In December 2026, the children will present the theatre pieces they have created to the public on a large stage.
The project creates an inclusive and supportive environment in which children can express their imagination, explore new roles, and experience cultural diversity as an enrichment. Its goal is to break down barriers, foster integration, and build bridges between cultures through collaborative artistic work.
In addition, the children have the opportunity to exchange ideas with one another and learn from each other. The core idea of the project is that each child – depending on their talents and interests – can discover their own passion, whether in acting, stage design, or composing music.
This project is funded by the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion of the State of Berlin and is implemented by Urban Theater in cooperation with the Berlin Cosmopolitan School.
